In the past your entire electric service was provided by your local electric utility. Now you may have the ability to select the company who will provide the generation supply part of your electric bill. This company is called an electric supplier

Q. What is generation supply?
The process of producing electricity. Generation also refers to the amount of electricity on your bill, usually expressed in watt-hours, kilowatt-hours (kWh) or megawatthours (MWhs)

Q: Do I have price caps?
That depends on what utility who your utility is. Find your utility on this list:

Allegheny Power
December 31, 2008 –rate cap expires
January 1, 2009 – New market driven rates begin

BGE
June 30, 2006 –Rate cap expires
July 1, 2006 – New market driven rates begin

Delmarva
June 30, 2004 –Rate cap expires
July 1, 2004 – New market driven rates begin

PEPCO
June 30, 2004 – Rate cap expires
July 1, 2004 – New market driven rate begin


Q: When does Electric Choice NOT apply?
Municipal Systems are not participating in electric competition. These community-owned, non-profit systems purchase energy wholesale and pass the savings on to their customers at cost. The municipal systems in Maryland are:
Berlin Municipal Electric Company
The Easton Utilities Commission
Hagerstown Municipal Electric Light Plant
Thurmont Municipal Light Company
Williamsport Municipal Electric Light System
